Football, an amusement park and the possibility of visiting the Frankenstadion in Nürnberg, one of the stadiums where the World Cup 2006 was played. The Forchheim Cup welcomes its guests on Friday for the check in. In the evening team leaders are welcome at the reception in the historical ‘Rathaussal’ at the town hall. On Saturday morning it’s time to play football, but first the opening ceremony will be held. Today, matches will finish quite early so that after a quick dinner, competitors will have plenty of time to enjoy themselves at the amusement park Schloß Thurn which will stay open longer than it normally does especially for participants in the Forchheim Cup. Older teams might prefer visiting the cosy altstadt of Forchheim or the Kellerwald with its 24 beer cellars instead. On Sunday teams are expected back on the pitch for the remaining preliminaries and the classification matches. After the finals on Sunday afternoon, the prize giving ceremony is scheduled. Few town halls are as pretty as the one of Forchheim.Bamberg. Bamberg (70,000 residents) is 30 km north of Forchheim. The lively centre is partially surrounded by water, in much the same way as Paris. Certain districts of this university city are on hills, where visitors are immediately captivated by the fantastic architecture.
Bamberg is also an attractive option for trips out, however, as there are limitless possibilities in terms of entertainment.Franken Stadium. From the beginning of professional football in Germany, in 1963, this stadium was the home base of FC Nürnberg. The original stadium, which was then simply called the ‘Municipal Stadium’, was built in 1926-1928. After its construction, it was called the “world’s most beautiful stadium”. The stadium has been renovated on various occasions over time. The last occasion was in 2003-2004 to prepare the stadium for the World Cup in 2006. Forchheim - 'Kellerwald'. Situated in the hills only 1 mile from the centre. Probably more than 400 years ago, 20 'Kellers' (Cellars) were made in the sandstone hills, just outside Forchheim, to store wine, food and beer at a low temperature (6-10 C). Now these are 'Bierkellers', most with their own 'Gaststätte', serving food and various locally brewed beers, made from the pure waters of the hills.
