A tournament that welcomes football players from as many different countries as the Italy Cup, can of course not start without a proper opening ceremony. On the first day of the tournament all teams will gather at the cosy and medieval harbour of Cesenatico. After all groups have gathered around, they will walk along the harbour, accompanied by a musical band. Besides a welcome word from the mayor, the national anthems and the fair play ode a lot of different flags and yells in all kind of languages will determine this opening ceremony. An official team leaders reception will follow in the town hall, together with the mayor of Cesenatico. The first games of the preliminaries will start after lunch on Monday and will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Tuesday evening team leaders are asked to show the measure of their powers in the main stadium in the teamleaders match. During this evening there will be more sportive activities for all ages. On Wednesday evening everyone is invited to come to water park ‘Atlantica’ for a refreshing dive in the swimming pool together with and only with other participants of the Italy Cup. (see also touristic information). From Wednesday on classification matches and semi finals will be played. The tournament schedule offers however plenty of time to explore the surroundings. On Friday it’s time for the finals in the stadium of Cesenatico, followed by a festive prize-giving ceremony. The day after most of the teams will leave, but some do remain a day longer to enjoy even more their sports holiday.

Cesenatico, one of the best seaside resorts on the Adriatic just north of Rimini, was founded in the early 14th century. Cesenatico has 5 miles of fine sandy beaches and the town's broad streets bustle with activity. The picturesque harbour was home to many fishing boats in the 15th century. The extension plans for the harbour were designed by no-one less than Leonardo da Vinci. In the harbour channel you'll also find 'The Maritime Museum', which is a floating museum. Nine traditional styles of boat can be admired here. When rigged up, their sails are a colourful addition to the cheerful harbour.
Cesenatico, with its old town centre has some great shopping streets. This is the ideal location to enjoy the sun, sea and entertainment. Venice, with its gondola's, lovely channels and bridges and the city-state of San Marino are within reach of a day trip.
Rimini, home to 130,000 people and 10 miles from Cesenatico, is the largest seaside resort on the Adriatic coast. The city has two faces. The old city to the west of the railway line, with Roman monuments such as the Roman Arch of Augustus, the bridge of Tiberius and the medieval Malatesta temple. On the other side of the railway line is the attractive new city with some 10 miles of beautiful beaches and no end of entertainment. A top spot for sunny tourism!
The 'Lungomare' (the boulevard) is the location of endless (cocktail) bars, discos, open air stages and other shows. Trendy spots, Irish pubs, swinging bars: it's all there. Just behind the boulevard is the best known shopping street, the Viale Vespucci. A perfect spot to saunter around and pick up some lovely souvenirs.
Funpark Mirabilandia/Ravenna is 15 miles Cesenatico and offers 850,000 square metres, almost 200 football pitches!, of refreshing green areas filled with many attractions. Seven areas, the magical lands of Mirabilandia, are waiting to be discovered. Within each area theatres, shops, restaurants and ice-cream parlours. At Mirabilandia there is only one entrance fee for all the attractions, like several roller-coasters, the watersplash, the two towers and many different shows. And once you have your ticket, you will take off for an adventurous journey in a fantasy world created for the family, the kids, the toddlers, and for all those who would have liked to have never grown up or those who just want to feel young for a day.
Open from: 10.00 - 18.00 (during summer 23.00). Entry: € 25,00. Children under 12: € 19,00. Groups > 20 pax: € 17,50.

Scientific/futuristic park Oltremare/Rimini - Riccione. Scientific/futuristic park Oltremare; an amazing (underwater) world opens up in front of your eyes. This scientific 'amusement park' will keep children and adults alike fascinated for a number of hours, and is very educational as well. The scientific approach taken by Oltremare is an American idea, with the necessary creativity coming from the Italians. The park is sub-divided into a number of categories, which include 'planet earth', 'Darwin' and 'planet sea'. You'll encounter sharks here, along with dinosaurs, strange seahorses and the very special IMAX, a futuristic cinema showing three dimensional films. Don't miss it! Open from: 10.00 - 18.30 hours. Entry: € 22,00. Children under 11: € 15,00. Groups >25 persons € 17,00 (prices 2007) More information: www.oltremare.org. Note: only suitable for full day excursion.
San Marino is 20 miles from Cesenatico, and with its 61 sqkm and its 26,000 inhabitants it is one of the smallest states of the world. It is situated on and around a 750 metres high hill, only 10 miles from Rimini. In whatever part of the territory you go, in particular at the peak of its mountain, your gaze is lost over a unique, dazzling panorama: the fertile soils of Emilia Romagna and the soft rolling hills of the Marche and Montefeltro, and on into the calm Adriatic sea. With it's capital high up in the hill, San Marino is a place rich in history and modern hospitality. A day, or half day trip takes you along museums, ancient forts and palaces, immersed in a fairy tale world.
Discotheques: At this part of the Adriatic there is a very active nightlife. Many nightclubs, disco bars and discotheques do surround Rimini/Cesnatico. Carnaby, Blow Up, Life, Altro Mondo and Baia Imperiale are just a few of them. The 'Baia Imperiale' has 5 different dance floors and spectacular laser shows and live performances. Discotheque 'Altro Mondo' is maybe the most famous and spectacular disco in Europe. Entering there is like being in a science fiction film with extraterrestrial beings who materialize with sophisticated equipment which comes out of a colossal spaceship hovering over one of the four dance floors, all in a furious play of multicolored lights. Not up for a night in disco? Just visit one of the many bars at the boulevard. Fun, music and the fantastic cocktails are served there.
Funpark Atlantica in Cesenatico is a salt water park! Everyone must try the spectacular slides in the waterfunpark. How about 'bobsleighing' on a slope of initially 70% and gliding like a stone on water? Or gently slide on the 'Water Toboggan' into the swimming pool? Or try the 'Kamikaze', a very steep and fast slide where you go down with a speed of around 45 mph. When you're tired take a rest in one of the many beds around the main swimmingpool and jump in when it starts its waves. In this park you can have fun the whole day or either part of it.
Open from: 10.00 - 19.00 hours. Entry: € 8,50 (normal price is € 17,00, but Italy Cup participants get 50% discount!). More information: www.atlanticapark.it
